“I had a massive headache after my first class!!”
We hear this, regrettably, all the time after someone’s first Bikram Yoga class. The class was great, they got a little dizzy towards the end, and felt amazing after class. When they arrived home, however, a pounding, monster-of-a-headache sets in. Measures CAN be taken to avoid crossing paths with this guy.
Firstly, ensure that you have hydrated before your class. Drink water throughout your day, not just ten minutes before heading in to the hot room. This will give you time to absorb what you need, and get rid of the excess.
Second, add some electrolytes to your hydration. Sweat consists, not only of water, but also of minerals such as sodium, magnesium, phosphorus, and calcium. Add a pinch of sea salt and a few drops of lemon to your water, or head on over to Sprout’s Farmers Market next door and pick up an electrolyte mix.
Lastly, eat a nutritious meal after class, if not all day! Mix in a nice helping of leafy greens and healthy fats to make sure you are fueling up properly. Practicing Bikram Yoga regularly will make you crave good nutrition, NATURALLY, so you won’t need to worry about feeling deprived when you’re trying to eat healthy.
Follow these steps, and you can kiss those headaches goodbye!
